A Personal invitation from Dr. Ransen, and a Description of his Holistic Approach
I am now seeing patients and couples at new private office in West Palm Beach, FL. Everyone finds this office quieter, more private, and more comfortable. The walls and ceiling are not hospital-white, warm lamps supply the lighting, the seating is as comfortable as those you probably have at home, and there’s often some hot tea brewing. There’s never any waiting, phones don’t ring during sessions, and the fees are much lower there than they were when I saw all my clients in a medical building. In sum, it’s a great environment.
What does “Holistic” mean?
No, it’s not “alternative,” “New Age,” or “naturopathic.” No, it doesn’t mean rejection of medical knowledge. No, it isn’t about energy healing, triangles, past lives, or Oriental wisdom.
For me (and for most other holistic practitioners) it’s meaning is simple but profound: Treat the patient, not the symptom.
I do not participate in insurance plans. Insurance companies demand to know what “mental disorder” you have, and how I plan to “cure” you. I refuse to play that game, and I refuse to jeopardize your privacy by giving insurance companies access to personal information about you, or to allow them to place psychiatric notes in your permanent record. Such notes would haunt your credit record for the rest of your life, making it more expensive or even impossible to obtain mortgages, credit cards, professional licenses, real estate transactions, and any kind of insurance. I know the difference between mental illness (very rare) and problems in living (very common). Here is a full description of my policy regarding insurance.
I am not Dr. Phil, who seems to get ratings by telling people what to do. I honor you as the only expert on your life. I will never understand what it’s like to be you, so I avoid giving advice. I rarely suggest what to do or what to stop doing. You shouldn’t have to pay for advice, which is free and plentiful from friends and relatives. A top counselor draws upon many years of training and experience to empower you to create real solutions that will work for you. There’s no reason for you to suffer any longer from relationship troubles, depression, anxiety, panic, disabling fears, sleeping problems, eating problems, or unwanted habits. If you need parenting counseling, marriage counseling, couples counseling, or relationship counseling, you’ve come to the right place. If you are troubled by depression, anxiety, fatigue, edginess, insomnia, irrational fears, you’ve come to the right place. Just call 561-865-6112 any time for an appointment within days.
Sometimes psychotherapy or counseling are not optimal or quick enough to solve your individual problems — those not under your conscious control or unrelated to an ongoing relationship. As a Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, I am trained and experienced in helping you let go of a very wide range of unwanted habits, fears, anxieties, obsessions, chronic pain, and negative feelings using hypnotherapy. I have had outstanding success with those who need to stop smoking now, lose weight, or conquer anxiety or panic attacks. In addition, clinical hypnotherapy can relieve “disorders” that psychiatrists may have diagnosed using fancy terms, including anorexia and bulimia, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and a whole alphabet soup of other problems that may have been treated with medication, as though you were mentally ill. In most cases, these are not illnesses or disorders, but simply problems in life that most of us experience at one time or another.
I adhere to the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality, as found in the ethics codes for psychologists (APA) and family therapists (AAMFT). I will never disclose any personally identifiable information about you (including the fact that you are my patient) unless ordered to by a court, required by law or in response to your signed written request. All my files are computer-encrypted and all notes are stored by case numbers, not names. Your privacy is protected by my oath and my extremely careful security practices. There has never been a breach of security in my 40 years’ experience in the field.
Just call (561) 865-6112 at any time, 24/7. If I cannot answer during business hours, it’s because the phones don’t ring when I’m in session with clients. I promise to return your call promptly if you leave a message (no one can hear your message except me). If you wish to schedule an appointment, just include a couple of convenient dates and times (weekdays beginning at 11:00; last appointment begins at 5:00). I will reply personally and quickly. Please carefully spell out your e-mail address, in case I cannot reach you by phone. Better still, send me a secure, HIPAA-compliant private message here. Only I can read your message.
I hope to hear from you very soon. This will be the decision that starts you on a healthy new direction in your life! Do the right thing by not waiting until matters have gotten out of control. The sooner we identify a problem, the less scary it will feel, and the easier it will be to create a lasting solution.
Here’s a secret I discovered decades ago. In about 75% of cases, healing begins the moment you place that call or send me that message — even before you’ve met me! It’s as if you’ve flipped a switch in your mind: “Time for me to take charge of the rest of my life, and made happiness my new normal.”
